Weddings from several days

This may be a long blog.  I haven't posted about weddings in a couple of weeks.  I will just write away and if it is too long you can quit reading.

The bride was 49 years old, the groom was 63.  She was stunningly beautiful.  Slim, black spiked hair, coal black eyes. She wore a black sheath that had an overall pattern of white flowers that were embroidered. The witness was a little scary in sort of a nice way.  She told me she was a "seer" for God and said to me, "You are the loveliest person I have ever met.  You are a really good person and you are kind." Goose bumps time.  She really gave me chills when she talked to me.

The bride wore a black sleeveless sheath with a high neck.  The neck was finished in overlaying circles of chiffon which made a necklace. The groom had been a widower for several years.  He was so moved by the ceremony, getting through the vows was tough for him.

The bride G wore grey chiffon, the groom wore grey shirt, grey tie, black slacks.  Their twin boys (10 to 12 years old) were dressed like Dad.  I asked if they had vows or wanted to say the traditional vows.  Traditional.  Her mother started yelling at G, "You have vows, you say them, you  . . ."  I had to tell Mom to be quiet, it wasn't her wedding, it was G's wedding.  G would do what she wanted.  Well G them wanted to say her own vows.  The groom R, deer in the headlights.  He told her he didn't have vows he wanted to do traditional.  This became an issue.  I took R aside and told him let her say her vows.  All he had to do was say I love you.  And no one has to hear what he says except G.  Well she says her vows and he clearly said some really lovely things.  So it worked out great.

A huge group, four elevators full.  They were from America Samoa.  This was one happy loud group.  This also was a group with a lot of screaming running children.  I made a new rule no children are allowed off the pew.  In the middle of the ceremony a toddler ran in front of me, I stopped and told the parents to come get their child.  Oh did I mention four of the rug rats screamed, not cried, screamed through the whole ceremony.  No one tried to hush them.  During the ceremony the bride and groom were tearful.  And the groom was so choked up he barely got the vows out.

The bride was pregnant, due in 7 weeks.  She was short and small except for the huge baby bump.  I can't believe I wrote that.  I am now ready to write for TMZ.  She wore a thin strapless white dress.  Oh yes, the thin white dress season is on us again.  She also wore blue bikini panties.

The bride was 37, this was her 4th wedding.  Her last husband died 11 1/2  months ago.  She had a very young baby.  Not that I am judging, but it looks like she didn't grieve long. I will say they were very much in love.  I hope this one lasts for her.

Final report.  They had no witness, so grandmother from the previous wedding volunteered to be a witness.  The bride was a knockout.  She was slim and fairly tall.  She wore a strapless blue and white dress.  The bodice was smocked and it had a circle skirt.  There was an underskirt of blue tulle that was about 4 inches longer than the top skirt.   She wore silver sandal heels that had tiny blue flowers on the top of the straps.

Yes, this is long.  I will try to update the weddings more often.  Lots of short blogs are better than a long one.

Not Many Weddings this week

Monday I had one wedding to do.  One, it was almost not worth going in, except even one is wonderful to perform.  This one wedding had it all:  lots of people, loud people, flowers, and they managed to tick me off.

I  heard this group in the lobby.  There was so much noise I thought several couples were waiting.  Wrong.  I called the couples name, asked IS EVERYONE HERE, and told them we would be going upstairs.  Every person in the lobby went with us.  I said my thing: cameras, rings, own vows, mute your phones.  Let us begin.  And two people walked out.  I quickly checked that the legal witness was still in the room and then asked what was going on.  Oh, two people weren't there yet and the others had gone to look for them.  I told them they had 3 minutes and then I was doing the ceremony.  Once in the room we can not just sit and wait for the rest of the party.  They found the missing ones in time and we did the ceremony.

The couple's two little boys had big red heart pillows with the rings on them. The bride wore a chiffony dress and a matching stole, she had a huge fresh water pearls necklace with matching pearls in her hair.  She carried a bouquet of tight white roses.

This was a mixed race couple and some times the two families are just barely polite to each other.  Not this group:  happy, loud, hugging, laughing.  The groom's mother told me she didn't think she would live to see this day, they had been together 8 years.  She was thrilled with the marriage.

Wednesday there were two weddings.  The first bride was so nervous.  The groom was really worried about her.  He said she won't eat, she needs to eat.  She was shaky and he all but held her up during the ceremony They both cried during the vows.  As soon as we were back in the lobby, she went over to the Deli and bought a sandwich.

The second couple had a cranky toddler.  He wanted to stand with the parents, only after they told him to sit with his grandmother.  Screaming, crying, (no tears of course) grabbing Mom's dress and  pulling it up.  He needed a swat.  I told them to let him stand with them and it would be fine.  It was, as soon as they said OK to him, he walked over to the pew and sat down.  But he wasn't done.  During pictures he refused to join them, screaming again, some one picked him up and put him in front the couple . He did that limp thing toddler's do, a noodle that can't stand on its own.  He was a brat.  I was taking pictures and took one of the temper tantrum.  I told them you want one real picture.  Then I kept talking to him ad he finally calmed down and actually smiled.

I am the child whisperer.

WEDDINGS ON WEDNESDAY

We were busy Wednesday at the county building. Lots of people buying marriage licenses, and several getting married there. I did 6 weddings in 2 1/2 hours. And during that time the marriage desk clerk did 3 Spanish weddings. I really prefer to be busy that to just sit and take up space.

My first couple was so very sweet. The groom borrowed a ring from his aunt to use as a wedding ring for the bride. He said they were going shopping right after the wedding. He hadn't had time to buy her a ring yet. The aunt sobbed through the wedding, and the groom was very emotional and cried. The aunt said, "Finally after all these years, you two are married." After I was back at my desk, clerk C told me the only picture ID the groom had was his prison ID. He had just been released. And that explains the aunt's statement.

One couple were divorced and remarrying. They were in their 60's and been divorced 6 years. So much emotion at this wedding. The groom's voice kept breaking as he said his vows. She was beaming. And then he began to cry. They really got to me, I nearly cried too. They were so thrilled to be back together, as in love as two 18 year olds. Love captures even the senior citizens.

Toward the end of the day there were two toddlers running from one lobby to the next and down the hallways. Running and screaming at the top of their lungs, running and sliding across the floor, running into people. NO parents in sight. Just two little ones driving everyone crazy.

I went out to get the last couple, the two children were tearing through the lobby and around the corner out of sight. As we got on the elevator, one of the women got back off. She said she had to go get the boys! Yes they belonged to the bride and her sister. The two boys rode in the elevator screaming for the joy of knowing no one would do anything. As the doors opened the little boys took off down the hall screaming at the top of their lungs. And not in the direction we were going. I told the adults they had to control their children, people were trying to work. And the groom looked at the bride and said, "That means DISCIPLINE!" He was ticked, not a good beginning.

The children were brought literally kicking and screaming into the marriage room. And one child had an even louder screaming, furious fit that he had to sit. He was so loud, I could not be heard. The bride grabbed him and talked to him, he kept screaming. And then she spanked him. Interestingly, he quieted down. You and I will no make judgement calls on the spanking. He was not hit hard. The real abuse was no one had ever told him no.

This couple was crude, all of the women were dressed like hookers, and they had the monster children. But for the ceremony, just lovely. They wrote their own vows and they were wonderful. I was very moved by their vows and I had to wipe my eyes.

Never judge a book by its cover.
