As I posted in the two previous posts, lots of tests, trouble on the home front, and I did not handle things well. I really thought after crappy Wednesday, I could carry on as the brave strong woman I am. Nope, did not happen.
Tuesday as usual I had chemo. No big problems Tuesday or Wednesday. Thursday I was nauseated, but not bad enough to throw up. As my mother used to say, "I'm 5 minutes before vomiting." This week instead of diarrhea, I was constipated. So I was getting the cramping but no action. The nausea has continued up to this very minute. The pills take the edge off, but the nausea never really goes away.
I have had no energy all week. I just sit in the recliner and watch idiot daytime TV. Or I sleep. Chemo brain will not let me read much more than the comics in the paper. Add to that I have eaten very little this week. Chemo nose and taste buds have kicked into overtime. Just about everything smells awful, and I sometimes gag looking at food shows. I know, I am a mess. I'll tell you just how bad I am, my go to food chocolate tastes wrong.
Friday friends came to take me to lunch. I chose Chinese, for some reason that always tastes good. Well, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't right. I just picked at my lunch and brought it home to Marty for his supper. At least my friends and I had a good visit.
The Blue Angels are in town for Fleet Week. They fly over the house at least once a day (they are using Oakland Airport for home base, which is less than 10 minutes away.) Marty and I wanted to go to one of the marinas and watch the real air show. Well, I did well to dress yesterday. No sitting on the shore and watching the show. I can't go today either.
I am tired, puny, and whiney. I don't feel bad, I just don't feel good. My get up and go has got up and gone.

No Chemo Week
A week ago as I blogged I was one sick chicken. Things improved, but for an off week, not much. I still have light nausea, very tired, no energy to do anything. I take the nausea pill and it helps. But food has not interested me this week.
Chemo nose and taste buds are back with a vengeance. Some foods smell so awful I think I will throw up. And then I taste something and it is just wrong. Sometimes it tastes really bad, and sometimes it is just is a little off. Marty keeps cooking stuff to tempt me. I have even cooked. Didn't even really like what I cooked. The really sad part, sometimes this is food I have raved about in the last couple of weeks. Some days no problem, some days trouble. Peanut butter and Honey Nut Cheerios still taste fine to me. Cold milk is good. Some nights a little wine, some nights I pour mine in Marty's glass. Every meal is an adventure.
What did I do this week if I am so tired? Well this was Erik's off week and I did the laundry. Not a big deal for most folks but it is for me. I dusted the apartment Friday, we have guests coming today and tomorrow. Marty is doing the floors and heavy hard stuff. After my little bit of cleaning I was done for the day. Some days just showering, dressing, and walking take all my energy and I am done before noon, in the chair resting.
Monday I see my oncologist and will have lab work. Tuesday I see my primary care doctor and then have chemo. If I feel like it my chauffer of the day Kirsten is taking me to lunch.
So in summary, I am tired, nauseated, have low energy. This is normal for my condition. I still am much healthier than I was in December. In fact to be so sick I am really doing well. I just have to accept I can't do everything I want to do.

This week's health update
Because of traveling and swollen legs I didn't have chemo for two weeks. Tuesday I was back in the chemo cycle. And chemo kicked my butt this week. I am not anyways as sick as last winter. But I had issues that slowed me down.
I never sleep well the night before chemo, just nerves. I know it doesn't hurt, but I get anxious. That was one night of broken sleep. Tuesday night the chemo didn't just break my sleep, it did away with it. This is a minor side effect ( minor except when it happens to me) sleep pattern messed up. So about 2 hours sleep. I planned to nap most of Wednesday, that didn't work. It didn't matter how tired I was, I couldn't go to sleep. I did sleep Wednesday night.
I was really tired all week. Thursday I slept most of the day and early evening. Friday I napped several times. Today I am perkier.
Along with the sleep issues and tiredness, I have been nauseated. No throwing up, just at the point my mother used to say, "five minutes before vomiting". I took my pills and they sort of helped. I had two days I didn't really eat anything. I was so nauseated I couldn't even eat chocolate! That was a first. I made myself eat yesterday, I can't get gaunt again.
There is some good news. When I finished the second round of antibiotics, my legs were still swollen. My doctor put me on a diuretic. She felt the skin was stretched and holding fluid. Within in four days I had ankles again. The diuretic is now to be taken as needed.
I am not real sick, just not as good as I have been. We will see how this next Tuesday works.

YARD SALES! hate, hate, putting one on
Several weeks ago we got a flyer from a neighbor. They were organizing the block yard sale. (it was yesterday) They would do the publicity, get a dumpster and a charity's truck there for leftovers. All we had to do was put out our treasures. I wanted nothing to do with it.
You price hundreds of things, carry out heavy tables and stuff. People show up two hours before the sale and want you to cut prices before you even get set up. It is a Saturday and we would have to be up way before a decent hour. Long hours on our feet, hot sun, and I could list lots more. I hate yard sales.
But Marty thought we should clean out more stuff from the storage shed. After a year and a half we have discovered we don't need everything stored in the shed. Hell, we don't need most that is in that shed, but I want it. Thus the storage shed.
I said no, no, still having flashbacks to getting rid of treasures when we sold the house and downsized. Too much work for too little money. We dithered around and never got out to the shed until Friday night. Our downstairs neighbor asked if we would be joining her at 6:30 to set up for the 8:00 sale. I said no, Marty said maybe. I knew I was doomed. We were going to do the yard sale.
We picked items we could give up, found tables to set up, and did not put stickers on everything. We just grouped stuff, and eyeballed it when we put it out. That cut out a lot of prep time.
Yes some people were there by 7, an hour before everything started. Some bought, and we did not cut prices for them. It was perfect weather for being outside with no shade. It was foggy and cool. Well it was until about 11:00, and the fog burned off. We had wind which helped, but when it stopped it wasn't very pleasant being outside. Then the wind really kicked up, and things were flying, even boxed items. Lots of exercise chasing stuff. Also we both have interesting sun and wind burns.
We did make money, we sold a lot of Marty's glass. We had fun, our downstairs' neighbor is entertaining. But we were exhausted. Too much standing and walking. Too much toting heavy things up and down stairs, carrying stuff from the storage shed. Lots of bending over, too much fighting fierce winds. And no nap for the drama queen.
I took a shower as soon as all was back to normal, and put on my night shirt. This was at 4:00. I was ready for bed. Marty was going to the gym to use the spa facilities and soak the soreness out of his body. He said we would go out to eat when he got back. And I said, no thanks.
Why you ask? I was too tired to put on make up and to get dressed. I did not want to move. I barely could move. So sweet Marty hit our favorite Chinese restaurant on the way home and brought lots of goodies for supper.

I thought I was tired Thursday
We did not get the house emptied out on Thursday as planned. We did not leave for San Diego at 8:00 in the morning as planned. We were back at the house packing, loading, cursing, crying all at the same time. I won't go into the problems of getting everything out. Just that it was hell.
Our realtor came by and helped pack, load, and he cleaned the house. Love you Michael! We hit the interstate around 5:00, major rush hour traffic for about 70 miles. Stop and go, bumper to bumper, a gazillion trucks. Ugly driving. Marty in the truck, me in the car.
Marty in a truck means he had to stop at weigh stations. The first one he pulls off. I went up the road and pulled onto the emergency lane. I am texting Kirsten who wanted minute by minute reports that we were safe. :) Someone raps on the window, CHP. "Are you all right Ma'am?" I explained about Marty, thanked him for checking on me, and off he went.
The drive is about 500 miles. Long boring miles through the Valley. Nothing to really see. As it turned out it was not boring. No one got sleepy, it was hard driving at 75 to 80 miles an hours and being worried about being run over because we were so slow. Then there were trucks. They get bored and play games with each other and poor innocent cars. We were on high alert.
Marty would call me, or I him, to check how things are going. So we would be talking and some idiot would do something that ticked me off. I would start yelling and cursing and Marty would think I was talking to him. It kept us awake, strained the marriage, but kept us awake.
We then had one lane traffic for miles. This is one of the highest volumes highway in the USA. Guess what, it is busier at night than the daytime.
We finally come to the Grapevine. When you get here you feel as if you have the trip nearly whipped. Over this pass and drop into LA. Can San Diego be far ahead. Yes, it is. Anyway. You fly up the winding steep road and then fall off the mountains. CAN YOU SAY CONSTRUCTION? Marty is in the truck lane and I am behind him. And it goes away, red cones for miles and miles and miles. Really, really slow. To add to the gazillion trucks we now have tour buses. HELP. They are crazier that we are. Bumper riding crazy idiots.
The driving is wearing us out. But we are wide awake, so keep on. New surprise in LA, rain. It doesn't rain in the summer in California, well last night it did. The rain and the construction added another hour to the drive.
We finally arrived at Richard's and Luis' at 3:10 in the morning. That made it a 21 hour day. Brutal labor and nerve wracking drive. We are here, safe, and being pampered.

Tired, so very very tired
We have nearly emptied the house. I have packed up so much. I have thrown out a lot. I have become ruthless. The more tired I become, the faster I head for the wastebasket. We aren't sleeping, we wake up thinking of all we have to do. We ache, we hurt, we push on. It has to be done.
Just to make things more fun, my bad knee has had a big relapse. The doctor is using the S word: surgery. Luckily there wasn't time before we left for surgery and rehab. So he said we would talk when we come back in December. Today though a huge change, I could walk without major pain. The knee is way better. Keep your fingers crossed.
We have a lot of stuff to take to San Diego. That will go on the truck in the morning. We have a few things left to put in storage. We will load that, drop it at the storage unit and then we head south. This will be a long boring drive. Marty in the truck, me following in the car. No one to talk to.
Sorry so few posts lately. Joe has sent me a post. I will try to get that up later this weekend. After we settle down in San Diego, I will start writing regularly. Not sure what, but I will let you know how we are doing. It is a beautiful area. So I am sure I will have lots of pictures to show you.
My battery has warned me no time left, so I am done whether I want to be or not.
