Shopping could be hazardous to my health

Today friend Kirsten took me shopping for some clothes for the Kentucky trip in August.  The plan was to go to Macy's ( I had lots of coupons, a gift card and they had a huge sale), next to The Nordstrom Rack for shoes, and then go to lunch.  My knee was still was acting up, but I was managing to walk fairly well.

Kirsten ran all over the store pulling outfits for me to try on. I was always about 20 feet behind her.  She knows me well and picked some neat things.  Then I tried them on and picked what I wanted to keep.  Trying on clothes takes a lot of energy.  I loved what we had found, paid for them and then we were off to the hat department.  My hats are really winter hats.  I need a lighter weight.

Well, the escalator and the elevator were out of order.  We had walked to hell and gone to get to the elevator and I was pooped.  Mother Hen, Kirsten cornered a clerk and explained the Disability Act to her.  The clerk took us through the back of the store and took us down on the freight elevator.  Then we walked twice as far to get out on the sales' floor.  I was wearing down fast.  Kirsten parked me in front of a mirror and brought me hats to try on.  I was getting light headed and nauseated.

We paid and headed to the door.  I was really having trouble, I was scared and pretty sure I was going to pass out.  Kirsten leaned me against the handicapped door and went for the car. I hung on to the wall until she pulled up.  She poured me into her car and took me home.  No lunch out.

I haven't felt that shaky since an A-Fib attack in December.  But I wasn't in A-fib. I had just over done it.  Way too much walking that I had thought I could do.  I have rested, napped, and pretty much done nothing all afternoon.

A hard shopping trip.  But worth it, I look great in the outfits and new hats,  I will listen to my body sooner next shopping trip.  Yes, Kirsten another shopping trip.  We never got to the Rack.

Christmas

We are still getting our apartment ready for us to live there.  We have cleaned, brought boxes and things that will fit in the car and put things up.  We have been working hard.  But Christmas Eve and Christmas Day we took off from the work and enjoyed the holiday.

For 30 +years we have gone into San Francisco on Christmas Eve to look at the Christmas decorations.  We walk through stores and hotels, and we gawk just like the tourists.  We stop to eat, walk some more, stop for drinks, walk, and then have supper. Lots of walking.   Sometimes we ride BART in and sometimes we drive in.  BART is the smart way.

When we got off BART, we walked through Bloomingdale's to get up to the street level. Very blingy.

This is a gingerbread/pastry masterpiece at the St. Francis Hotel.  I could have taken a picture showing the top, but the little boy wouldn't be in it.  He would look at his mother, then me, than point out the train, or something on the castle.  He was Christmas.

The family we are staying with told Santa we were at their house.  Santa brought treats and goodies for Marty and me.  Oh and of course there were goodies for our hosts. We had a lovely Christmas brunch with them and their friends.

That evening we met our son Erik and his wife Jennifer at Skate's on the Bay and had Christmas Dinner.

We had a wonderful Christmas.  Now to get moved in and begin 2013.

WARNING, THIN WHITE WEDDING DRESSES

Monday and Wednesday were not real busy. I did 4 or 5 each day. There were some really sweet couples. Also there were some that were difficult to do, and there were the thin white dresses.

Difficult to do for a couple of reasons.

The crying baby wedding. For nearly an half an hour we could hear a baby screaming in the lobby. This was constant screaming, I don't know how the child could breathe at the same time. Lucky me they were there to get married. As the paper work was being done the mother whipped out a boob and tried to feed the baby. The clerk was offended. She is a mother and all for breast feeding, but we all agreed a blanket over the shoulder would be more appropriate. The baby screamed through the ceremony. No one seemed to do anything. No bouncing the baby, no burping her, no walking with her. They then went downstairs and sat about 20 minutes with the child still screaming.

The underage groom: If the bride or groom is younger than 18, a judge must give permission for the marriage. The groom was 10 months short of 18, the bride was 22. They had the court order allowing him to marry. She was in a beautiful traditional sari, he had on baggy pants and a backwards baseball cap. Traditional California boy. Can you say arranged marriage?

The first white dress was stunning. It was a long tulle sheath, seed pearl spaghetti straps, with a handkerchief hem. There were several beautiful lace pieces scattered on it. There was an under skirt to the knees, which was too sheer not to have a slip under it. This lovely vision of a woman had on a white thong.

Second white dress: This was a huge wedding group. Everyone was dressed up. We had a bouquet, boutonnieres, we had corsages. The groom had on a white suit with pale blue trim ( to match the bride's fingernails). We had a best man and a maid of honor. As Daddy walked the bride in, the crowd hummed the wedding march. They were a happy excited group. And the bride? Short gathered dress of chiffon, spaghetti straps, white underskirt, white thong.

Now for the rant. Do these people not have mirrors? Is this a new look that I am too old to appreciate? The clerks are much younger than I am, and the thongs offend them. Buy a slip, I am sure Macy's still sells them.
