Are you as tired of this move as I am?

It seems nothing about our moving in goes as planned.  But some things at least are over.  And some nice things are happening.

The truck is returned.

My big honking refrigerator is finally in and running.

Many boxes are unpacked.

Essential items were found.

Pretty things that make me happy were found.

But some things just made us mad. The satellite internet installers were almost 9 hours late.  That made it very dark when they arrived.  They were on the roof with lights on a headband.

As we waited we kept working.  Marty and I put down our Oriental rug in front of the bed.  It had about 6 inches to go under the bed’s legs.  Did I say it is an iron four poster bed?  It weighs a ton and we had another 100 pounds of boxes on it.  I can’t lift it and neither can Marty.  But nobody there but us chickens.  Marty got a lever, the ironing board, and lifted the bed.  I pushed the rug under the each leg.  We then repeated the process under the armoire.  The ironing board ???

Do you like the bend in the legs and the top?  Sweet Marty promised to quickly buy me a brand spanking new ironing board.  Be still my heart.

It is coming together.  The boxes are dwindling down.  Furniture and rugs are in place, well almost.  If all goes well by Wednesday night we will be sleeping at our new home.  Please may I have a working kitchen sink by then.

Still Moving In

Warning: Blogger said spellcheck is not working today.  You all know I have spelling issues. Hope I guessed right.

We began cleaning and bringing small things to the apartment before Christmas.  Yesterday we hired the big truck, hired 2 day laborers, and had the landlord's broken refrigerator taken out and took my big honking one in.

Joe has a guy who does repairs/odd jobs.  We paid him to move our refrigerator out of the storage unit.  He and his son arrived with their truck and hilarity ensued. They try and try, and can't get it out of the unit.  They basically said it couldn't be done.  I told them it had gone in there, so it had to come out.  They finally get it into the hall and can't make the turn to the outside door.  Marty shows them another exit from the building.  At that point I left to be at home when they arrive.  It got worse.

They can't get the old refrigerator down the steps.  The build up of ice in the broken freezer is now melted and pouring all over the floors. At this point they call another guy to help them. They consult and decisions are made. They decided to go out the back steps, but first the back door and the screen door have to be taken off.  They didn't have to take the threshold strip off, it ripped right up when the refrigerator went over it.  Now to bring my huge beauty in.

They couldn't get it in the door of course.  They took the French doors off, took the freezer drawer out, and took out all the other drawers and the shelves.  I was afraid if they ever got it in the kitchen, they would never get it back together. Three and a half hours from beginning to end I finally have my refrigerator in the kitchen, back together, and it was running. Now we have to get the icemaker water line run.  That should be just as much fun.

While the refrigerator fun is going on, my team of movers are loading the kitchen with boxes.  They also are filling the apartment with furniture and lots and lots of boxes.  At one point I was walled in by boxes.  Our friend walked in with another box, grinned like an evil child, and left me.

The kitchen is coming together.  The bed is put together.  The living room looks like a real room.  There is still work to be done. Marty will make the last run with the truck this morning.  We know for the next couple of months we will rework how things are stored.  But we have a new place to live.  And it already feels like home.

August 24 is getting closer and closer

Moving is awful.  It is emotional.  It is way too physical.  It hurts on every level. But our friends are taking care of us.

Our house closes on August 24.  That means we have to be out on the 23rd. We have so much stuff. We have cleaned out each of the last 2 moves and now this one.  Where did this stuff come from?  Does it breed in the storage under the house?

OR maybe neighbors put stuff under our house.  We keep finding things we have never owned.  For example: a camping stool, we do not camp, we hotel;  three portable picnic tables, they fold up like card tables; a fireman's ax; a huge suitcase; yard tools. Where did this all come from?

Today was our free bulk pick up.  We had so much stuff up on the parking pad.  I was afraid they wouldn't take it.  Waste Management is picky about what they will take.  We heard the truck stop and we jumped out of bed, lowered the shade, and watched them load the trucks.  Would they take it all?  Please take it all!  Yes, everything was legal!  The parking pad again has cars on it.

We spent the weekend packing.  Marty borrowed Big Blue, a huge huge pick up, from friends Frank and Janet.  Marty moved boxes to the storage unit.  Friend Pat helped me sort through Christmas ornaments and decorations.  She would unpack it, I would then decide if it needed to be thrown away, go to consignment, or keep.  The decision to keep was easy.  If I cried, she re wrapped it and put it in the keep box.

Then we moved on to wine glasses.  Three boxes later, not done with wine glasses.  She is taking me to lunch today, and then back here and packing more wine glasses.

Marty and I took 9 boxes of ornaments and decorations to the consignment shop.  They do not accept Christmas items until September.  I had said I would bring the items in the first week of September.  Well the house sold so quickly, we couldn't wait until September.  The owner very graciously broke her rule to help us out.

People have been so kind helping us.  Having us to dinner. Friends are great.

Guest Blogger Joe and his wife took us to dinner Saturday.  Fabulous food.

Our son has set up and torn down two yards sales. He chatted up the customers.  He worked like a dog.  He is coming Saturday to move furniture.

Paul has packed art glass and going to store it for us too.  Plus when the kitchen is packed up this weekend we will stay at his house.

Pat I have mentioned above.  She is great on stopping me from going in circles. I just get over whelmed.

Kirsten sends love and hugs from work or  England even Wine Country, drops by to give hugs, and will be packing Monday.  She, Karl, Frank, and Janet are having us to dinner Monday night. We will take Big Blue back but will borrow it again from Frank and Janet.

Yesterday four of the clerks at the Marriage Factory took me to lunch.  We had a great time.  They are so worried I am not coming back from San Diego.  They worry and then one of them cried.  So I cried too.

Saturday night we are going to Ben and Dan's for dinner.

The love and help has been so touching.  Lots of email, Facebook love.
