I Have Had a Good Week

Sunday for Mother's Day our son took us out for brunch.  He had found a very neat place that I would have just passed by.  As they say don't judge a book by its cover.  We ate at the Handlebar, those of you in the Bay Area might want to try it. We all loved the food. I highly recommend the Bloody Mary's.

As you can see we enjoyed our drinks.  Erik with a Mimosa, Marty and I had the very spicy Bloody Mary's.  Yes we had food too.

                                                            A better picture of us.

After we ate, we went to the Berkeley Marina to take more pictures and to freeze.  It was a cold, windy, gray day.  Really windy as you can tell from Erik's messed hair.

Wednesday I saw my primary care doctor.  This was a follow up from the trip to the ER a couple of weeks ago.  (that was for spiking blood pressure)  After tweaking my meds, my blood pressure is in the normal range again.  He was pleased with how well I am doing.  He had one question on a medicine he wants me to ask my oncologist about.  He doesn't think I need to take it.  I am all for taking fewer pills.

That afternoon was Erik's time to come help us with domestic duties.  He cleaned, did laundry, and moved furniture.  And we had a lovely visit.  He is a huge help to us, physically and emotionally.  Love you Little Boy.

Friday good friend Pat picked me up for breakfast.  Her son ate with us, then he went to an appointment and we went shopping.  Mostly we were looking, and then I found some cute pajamas, so I bought them.

Then we went to another store and I found several purses that needed to come home with me.  Well until I picked them up.  Most of them were too heavy even empty for me to consider.  Then I found a leather (probably not real) hobo bag that was light as a feather.  Soft as a baby's butt.  It also had all kinds of pockets, zippers, compartments, it is great.  As we were headed to pay, I saw it.  The perfect carryon bag.  It has red leather and a leopard design.  It is in your face and only a secure woman could carry this bag.  Lots of pockets:  it will hold my laptop, all my meds, and probably three days of clothing.  I love it.   It came home with me too.

It was great to be strong enough to shop.  I walked for a over an hour and I wasn't exhausted. Tired, but not a huge problem.  It was a lovely time with Pat.  She makes me laugh, gets my black humor, and takes such good care of me.  I had such a good time, thanks Pat.  Friends like that are hard to find.

It was a very good week.  And tomorrow I will get to go to church for the first time since October.  I have already put out the gloves and mask I will wear.  Yep, knock wood, things are going pretty good.

Belated Mother’s Day By The Hardest

To catch everyone up: Erik was in a bike wreck, so our Mother’s Day time was postponed a week.  Saturday he called to move from a brunch to dinner, their bikes had been stolen again.  They were hitting swap meets to find them.  I was sick, look at the this and this if you want details.

Erik arrived excited, they had found his bike, and a neighbor’s.  Jennifer’s is still out there.  We then talked about how very ill my mother is.  Problems going on here and there.  Then I did what I do all the time.  I said I needed 1-800-Erik.  My Outlook had gone bonkers and refused my password.  We couldn’t find how to get a new password, how to find out your old password, it wouldn’t send or receive email.  He fixed it!  He looked through my programs and rearranged one or two and was done.  He said he was proud of Marty and me and our use of computers.  Many of his friends’ parents can’t do any thing without causing major problems.  Yay for us.

I felt so bad, and the coughing sounded disgusting, so we didn’t go out to dinner.  He called Chu, one of my favorite restaurants and ordered take out.  A few minutes after he and Marty left to pick it up, Marty called.  He said get a piece of paper and punch a pinhole.  I then remembered the eclipse.  I had been wondering why the shadows were so strange.  Below are some pictures I took during the eclipse.  Be sure to click on them to enlarge the pictures.

Erik held my paper up to the side of the house and got this reflection.  Notice the angle of the visible sun is just a little different.

This is the best picture I took.

After the fun picture taking, we ate our wonderful dinner.  We continued to watch the reflections on the wall and floor in the dining room.

Marty and Erik have a new game on their phone, Draw Free.  It is a fun app.

I had a fun enjoyable Mother’s Day even if I felt bad.  Sitting around talking with your son and husband is pretty nice.

Mother’s Day, not the original plan

Yesterday as I was dressing Erik called.  He was feeling so bad from the bike wreck, he didn’t think either of us would enjoy the day. So we have declared Mother’s Day next Sunday.  That may become a tradition.  Last year Marty and I were out of town on Mother’s Day.

So I am all dressed up and no place to go.  Marty and I have wanted to see The Avengers and haven’t had time.  Yesterday we had time.  Really really fun and exciting movie.  Witty writing and eye candy for everyone.

We came home, played on our computers, and took long naps.  Marty then took me out for Thai food.

We went to a restaurant we go to often. (Let me explain why Marty wasn’t  dealing with the waiter, he is too nice.  He has way more patience that I do.)  The restaurant always has good service, good food.  It was Mother’s Day they were on overload, mainly with take out orders.  The big problem was they were understaffed.  There were empty tables, but no one to seat us. We were invisible, as were the people standing with us. Finally the waiter pointed to a table and we seated ourselves.  We have no menus or water.  Ten minutes later he seats people next to us, gave them menus and water.  He has now ticked me off.

I forgive small local restaurants a lot.  But not making me invisible.   Queen Janet explained the situation.  We got menus, wine, water, and an apology.  The meal was good as always, but so slow.  We finished and he asked if we wanted the leftovers boxed up,  yes.  The waiter brought the bag of food to us and walked off.  No bill.  Maybe they were giving me a Mother’s Day present.

So I flag down the waiter and ask for the bill.  It took nearly 10 minutes for him to write the bill and bring it to us.  I guess he had had it with Queen Janet.  No orange slices, no mints on the tray.  He should be glad Marty was paying and not me.  If me, no tip on the tray.

Belated Mother's Day

We were out of town on Mother's Day.  So today we celebrated with Erik and his wife, Jennifer.  When we are with Erik it becomes the battle of the phones.  We take pictures of each other.  We then post them on facebook.  We take pictures of the food and post them on facebook.  And then I download all the pictures and post them on my blog.

There are no pictures this time.  As we were hugging them goodbye, I realized no pictures were taken, by any of us.  Bummer.

We had a great visit.  They have recently moved to our side of the tunnel and this was our first visit to the new place.  Their condo is fabulous.  Great kitchen, large living space, 2 1/2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, two balconies and a view of San Francisco.

Erik and Jennifer took us to Sea Salt for brunch.  This is a well known restaurant in Berkeley.  And it lived up to its reputation.  Erik had truffled eggs.  I had a breakfast sandwich which had creamy cheese, ham, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce,.  Jennifer had a scrambled egg sandwich which had some wonderful cheese in it.  Marty had scrambled eggs with cheese.  We were all very happy with our choices.

This was a very special Mother's Day for me.  Thank you Erik and Jennifer.  I love you both very much.

MOTHER'S DAY

Today our son Erik spent the day with us. Marty and I had already planned to see Iron Man 2 at IMAX. So Erik joined us. We rode BART into San Francisco. We grabbed a bite to eat and then sat and talked. Then we wandered outside the Metreon in the gardens before going into the movie.

Iron Man 2 is nearly as much fun as the first one. Lots of things get blown up, lots and lots of things; there is romance; it gets tense; and it is funny. A great way to spend an afternoon.

I had a lovely day with my son and husband. Thank you Marty and Erik!
It was like dueling iPhones with the three of us, all day. I think some of these people had been there for hours waiting to get in the movie. They had lunch, drinks, and were settled in. We were in the second line and got there 30 minutes before the start.
Again with the iPhone as we wait for BART. Bart was off schedule (power failure) so we had to entertain ourselves some way.
